This month our spotlight is on Businessolver. Businessolver is a benefits technology and consumer engagement SaaS-based platform that empowers HR and benefits professionals to transform the employee benefits experience into an engaging, understandable, year-round journey.

Interview conducted by David Sherman, Director of Channel Partnerships and Strategic Alliances at PTO Exchange.

A conversation with Sheri Bockhorst, Businessolver’s Head of Consumer Experience. 1550409198573

Can you tell me a little about yourself, your background, and what you focus on at Businessolver?

I am the Head of Consumer Experience at Businessolver. I have over 20 years of experience in the health and benefits industry, working across benefit strategy and design, delivery, administration, and member engagement. After experiencing significant frustration in designing creative plans and programs that couldn’t be efficiently administered, I transitioned to focus on end-to-end solutions, creating one of the first private exchange solutions. At Businessolver, I focus on driving innovation and outcomes to support the needs of clients, employees, and families.

How does Benefitsolver's technology offer personalized benefits information to employees, and how does this impact employee engagement with their benefits?

Personalization is the future of benefits (check out our latest Benefits Insights report to see the data!). Benefitsolver is a tech- and data-enabled platform, meaning the system leverages data to help proactively drive employee engagement year-round. While each member has different needs, we can scale personalization across the program to meet people where they’re at. This looks like:

  • Sending needs-based, relevant email and text message nudges to help individuals navigate their available benefits and programs
  • Supporting members 24/7/365 through Sofia, our AI virtual benefits assistant, by unpacking the “question behind the question” to navigate members to the right resources and support.
  • Designing the member experience on web and mobile leveraging user experience optimization techniques, removing friction for individuals to access the information they need, when they need it, in their preferred channel
Can you discuss how Benefitsolver's omnichannel communications framework helps employees stay engaged with their benefits year-round, and what kind of support is available to help them take action?

Benefits engagement doesn’t end at open enrollment, nor do employees’ health and well-being needs. But benefits can be difficult to understand and navigate (85% of employees say they’re confused about their benefits), so ensuring your benefits strategy has a strong communication framework in place is critical to driving year-round engagement.

Our approach to omnichannel benefits communication (like emails, banner messages in the platforms, and Sofia notifications) is designed to increase impressions to build muscle memory for awareness so that members remember what’s available to them, how it can help them, and easily navigate to those resources in the moments that matter.

Can you share any unique or innovative services that set you apart from similar companies?

Our personal virtual benefits assistant, Sofia, is an autonomous learning AI application. Sofia is trained to support members based on their personalized information – including benefit eligibility, enrollment, participation, demographic data, and transaction history. Sofia supports employees on the phone, web, and mobile. Sofia ensures that members have needed support 24/7/375 to navigate the complexity of the benefit plans and programs available. She supports members on the phone, on web, and on mobile. With today’s consumers expecting lightning-fast answers when and where they need them, Sofia can address those wants while also helping reduce stress and confusion when it comes to using their benefits.

Are there any new products or partnerships that are unique to the industry that you are excited about?

Yes, we are very excited about adding PTO Exchange to our Pinnacle Partner program. PTO Exchange brings great flexibility to employers in dealing with excess PTO liability on their books. In addition, the solution helps drive financial wellness for employees with the ability to cash out their accrued PTO or help fund their 401K or HSA. We think Businessolver customers will be very interested in PTO Exchange and the value of our integration member experience.

What sets your company apart from others in the employee benefits industry?
