Cash Flow Worries Rank Higher Than Health, Family or Work

PTO

American’s top stress-inducer? Money.

Rather, the lack thereof.

According to BlackRock’s annual Global Investor Pulse survey, many Americans worry more about cash flow than their health, family or work.

The study suggests there is a remedy: Those who are saving for retirement feel better overall than those without a retirement savings plan.

Sure, that logic makes sense, but for many people the here-and-now takes priority over the future. Saving for the future is highly desired but when you’re living paycheck to paycheck, it just isn’t an option.

For many people, their paycheck means the difference between whether or not bills and student loans will be paid on time and how their families are supported. Taking time away from your job may be more stressful if you are living paycheck to paycheck, are overwhelmed with student loan debt, or have health and medical bills. Relieving stress is not just about taking days off.

At the end of the day, paid time off (PTO) is meant to reduce stress and improve your well-being. Your benefits should be flexible enough to support the life transitions that we all go through.

PTO Exchange has developed a patented platform that allows employees to convert unused paid vacation time into tangible goods and services that matter most to them.

“Paid time off is meant to reduce stress,” co-founder and CEO Rob Whalen said. “It’s a benefit that's part of your overall compensation. You should be able to own it and self-direct it…period.”

From student loan repayment, education support, healthcare or retirement savings, to funding vacations and charity, and even transferring the time to a colleague in need.

“In our pursuit of redeveloping the middle-class, offering this kind of flexibility is a must,” Whalen added. “At the end of the day, it’s your time and income. You worked for it, you should be able to use it how and when you need too.”

If flexibility is something that could and would help you in the throes of life, relief is finally here! Talk to your HR representative about implementing flexibility options.
